Basic information
Latin name: Clematis mandshurica (it should definitely be noted that it is sometimes also referred to as Clematis terniflora var. mandshurica) — these terms are used as synonyms.
Plant type: perennial climber with small, star-shaped white flowers.
Growing conditions
Position: Prefers a sunny position (at least 6 hours a day) or partial shade, a plant whose "head is in the sun, feet in the shade".
Soil: Humus-rich, well-drained soil. Like many clematis, it can be sensitive to excessive moisture in the root zone. Soil pH 5.5–6.5
Height and spread: Can reach approximately 1.5–2 m in height and about 1.5 m in spread.
Blooming period: July to September, on the current year’s shoots — the small white flowers form “cloud-like drifts” of bloom.
Flowers: Fragrant, 1.5–2 cm in diameter, star-shaped. The flower fragrance is particularly pronounced in a sunny location.
Use in the garden
Thanks to its abundant flowering and fragrance, it is a good choice for planting by terraces, pergolas, or as a specimen by a sturdy support in the garden, in beds, as well as by a fence or house wall.
